Project Orion - Rovering with Turtles

 

Project Orion - Rovering with Turtles is a Youth Expedition Project initiated by the Singapore Rover Scouts to fulfill the criteria for the Scouts of the World Award. The project is done in accordance to one of the UN's millennium development goals of environmental conservation. Project Orion, aptly named after the three star constellation, will see the participants conserving three different species of sea turtles. Project Orion is done in partnership with WWF Malaysia and the Malaysian Scout Association. It too will see local Malaysian Scouts getting involved and supporting the project. The project will be held in Setiu, Terengganu, Malaysia and will take place over 16 days, from 20 June 09 to 5 July 09. The participants will also be involved in mangrove reforestation projects, beach cleaning and patrolling, environmental awareness education in a local school and assisting in repair works on a WWF information centre and a few homes in a local village.
